Capturing the authentic moments in Creative Tween and Teen Portraiture

Sometimes it can be difficult for a tween to relax in front of the camera. The span of ten-to-twelve years old can be an almost androgynously awkward time for girls. It’s the time that bridges cute into beautiful. And it’s a tricky spell to navigate. Gretchen is perfectly comfortable in her own skin – incredibly bright and inquisitive – with classic physical beauty. Still in between sets, I managed to capture this image that hints of her first steps into self-awareness. It’s become a favorite from the session.
